Purchase: I purchased my saddle, breast collar and saddle through the internet. I was apprehensive at first, but there is a step by step fitting technique on the website that is helpful. It was purchased from Dixieland Saddle Co after a lot of research on gaited saddles. I decided on this saddle because of the type of flexible gaited tree, workmanship and price. I paid $1062 for the saddle $139 for the matching saddle pad, and I believe it was $98 for the breast collar. In comparing other saddles this one was far superior, especially for the price.
Likes: Where do I start?... The fit is perfect and I have had a lot of challenges fitting my narrow horse. The workmanship is absolutely beautiful and the quality really shows. The saddle itself is very comfortable and I feel secure in it. The breast collar matches and the fit makes it easy for my Rocky Mountain horse to gait without feeling restrained by a poor fitting breast collar. The saddle pad is also very nice quality, and the whole set works extremely well together.
Dislikes: I like everything.
Quality: The saddle, pad, and breast collar is handmade by the Amish who are known for quality work. I have no concerns about the integrity of the workmanship. Anyone can look at the saddle and see it is made to last, look beautiful, perform right, and be comfortable to both horse and rider. The tooling is gorgeous and the leather hand polished. There are several colors, and styles to choose from to fit you and your horses needs best. I am extremely happy.
Summary: I would highly recommend (and have) Dixieland Saddle CO to anyone looking for an affordable, outstanding quality saddle for a gaited horse. I really feel like I finally found a beautiful great fitting saddle that I could afford.
