Purchase: I purchased this saddle direct from Marciante- at the time in Colorado- over the phone in 1995(pre-internet!). After one ride season with a saddle that did not fit my horse real well, I realized I needed to get a better saddle. After many conversations with friends and a couple phone calls, I felt for the price Marciante was definitely worth a try.
Likes: I sent Marciante photos and measurements of my horse, and he sent me a saddle that fit! My horse never had a sore back, or any problem related to saddle fit, ever. In all honesty, over the years, I easily put over 7,000 miles on that saddle (and horse!) I am still using it, although I just recently needed to get a skito pad (well worth the money!!) as my gelding is now sway back and the saddle was bridging.
Dislikes: The only bummer is that I can't figure out how to contact Marciante; perhaps they are out of business? I wanted to order another saddle for our new horse!
Quality: I did not order a fancy saddle- I am not a fancy person! The saddle's construction is solid and tight, no sloppy stitches or rough cut leather. I like the use of lightweight material where it makes sense (billet and latigo are nylon, ralide tree), no extra skirting.
Summary: After many trail rides, endurance races, rides in the snow, rain, hail and heat, this saddle is still going strong. It has gotten soaking wet, filthy dirty and ridden hard. I just wish I could get another one for our new horse!
