EZ Ride Stirrups
Aluminum Stirrup with Cage
Western Saddle Fittings/Pads
Manufacturer: EZ Ride Stirrups
Model: Aluminum Stirrup with Cage
Category: Western Saddle Fittings/Pads
Purchase: I paid $73.10 from horseloverz.com for the aluminum stirrups with the cage (I LOVE safety features, I have always secretly been worried about getting a foot hung in a stirrup). I always have knee, ankle and foot pain and numbness when I ride more than 30 minutes. I really hate it when my feet go completely numb on a trail ride, as my horse can be a bit spooky and I need all the security I can get! Numb feet feel rather useless to help with balance, and then my ankles buckle under pressure! Scary!!
Likes: I first tried these when I demo-ed a saddle, and they came with it, so I was forced to use them. I didn't care for the feeling at first that they compress a little with pressure, but after a 1.5 hour trail ride, I was in love! I ride with my heels too far down and feet turned in (a result of a decade of equitation lessons, and now it is my go-to position, but my heel really is TOO far down) and after 30 minutes, my ankles and everything below goes numb. I noticed that it was greatly reduced with these stirrups. Now that I am used to the feeling of the stirrup, I really like the extra secure feeling from the wide tread, and I really do feel that it distributes the pressure much better and allows me to keep feeling in my feet! Much better!
Dislikes: The feeling that the stirrup compresses beneath your foot is a little strange at first, especially when posting the trot, as you feel a little "squishy" at first. If I had only ridden in them a few minutes, I would never have bought them. Good thing I rode more!
Quality: Once you get used to them, they are very well made, lightweight, and come in a great variety for looks, (I also bought the black tapadero kind for my boyfriend, and they look COOL.) They do exactly what they say, they properly distribute weight much better and really make riding more comfortable. Also, I LOVE the options of safety cages and tapaderos for safety.
Summary: These stirrups are WELL worth the money, and are one of the few safety type stirrups out there. They feel like they will last a long time, and offer replacement parts should I need them. But the big thing is that they truly make riding more enjoyable, especially for the back, knees, and ankles! Awesome product! :)
