Gaited, flex tree trail saddle
Trail Saddles
Manufacturer: Dixieland
Model: Gaited, flex tree trail saddle
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought the saddle off of Ebay for $750. It was in very good condition, almost like new. I have been trying hard to fit a both a wide Arab/appy and a wide Morgan. I thought gaited might be nice especially for the Morgan.
Likes: I think the quality was excellent. The leather was soft and supple, the workmanship was very nice. I did not care for the black dye on the edges of the leather...just my personal preference, tho. Also, for a western style saddle, it was not too heavy. Not super light, but not a boat anchor either.
Dislikes: First, I must say that this saddle was not custom fit to my horse, so cant expect a perfect fit there, but it was decent on the Morgan. What I truly disliked about the saddle is that it did not fit ME. The seat size was right, but the shape was way off for me.
Quality: Excellent though out.
Summary: I was really hoping this saddle would be a good fit for me and at least one of my boys. Dixieland does a very nice job producing quality saddles at a good price. As horse owners, we pay alot of attention to fitting horses backs correctly and acknowledge the differences there. However riders "bottoms" differ as well. There are some of us with ample behinds, but narrow seat bones. An odd combination, especially in a female, but that is me. This saddle was too wide in the twist area, and also too wide in the seat. The seat had plenty of rise, which I like, but just too wide for me in the butt, even tho mine isnt small. The sides of the seat chopped into my thighs causing increasing discomfort over a 2 hour trail ride. Not good. In all fairness to Dixieland, if you want a custom saddle, get it fit to YOUR SEAT as well. When buying used, be aware of what your "seat," is comfortable in. If you are generic on the bottom, might work well. I sold the saddle at a small loss (as usual), sigh. I am now in the process of ordering a custom built for both ME AND MY HORSE. I am hoping to get it right this time.
