Purchase: I bought this saddle on Craigslist for $75, medium width 17" seat. It is brand new, not even broken in yet. I purchased it to fit a 14.2 high fjord mare with sharper withers than my other fjords.
Likes: What can I say? A brand new saddle for $75. It is WELL worth the money. It fits my fjord mare very well, and fits me like a glove. It is comfortable to sit in and stable to mount in even without the mounting block. It came complete with stirrups, leathers and a stretchy flat dressage girth. It is quite comfortable even when comparing it to my German made Charles Dekufney (spelling?) saddle. I'll be using it just for early dressage to turn this mare into a better saddle mount. For me and her this is a great match into an entry level saddle. The leather is clean and decent quality. I'm impressed with the saddle for the price.
Dislikes: There are a couple things I would prefer to change about this saddle. One is that the billet straps are wider then my conventionally purchased girths will fit. I will be shopping for a leather girth that will fit this saddle. However, the flat stretchy material girth seems to be comfortable for my mare and I'll only be doing slow work with her right now. I would also like the billet straps to have holes all of the way up, there is a perhaps 3 inch gap half way up in between holes, which could cause a problem fitting it to some horses. It didn't cause a problem with this one.
Quality: Black leather I would say at better than entry level quality. The leather has a nice appearance and is smooth, not rough as you'd expect for a cheaper saddle. It also seems to have ample thickness to have some longevity to it.
Summary: For the money this saddle is a great investment. With proper care it looks like is going to see me through a few years of light dressage work on this mare. If you are starting in the dressage world where everything seems to be expensive, this saddle would be a welcome place to start. Then if you continue on you can watch for that good deal on an upgrade saddle. My rating is related to the price value and not to the ultimate value. We all know there are 3 and 4000 saddles out there that this won't compare to.
