Tory Leather
Soft Padded Halter
Halters/Ropes/Leads

Manufacturer: Tory Leather
Model: Soft Padded Halter
Category: Halters/Ropes/Leads

Purchase: Purchased at State Line Tack website. The halter was supposed to be $49, it showed on the website at $49, it showed on thefind.com for $49 and it showed ongoogle.com for $49. But when I finished all my shopping and went to pay for it, I did not check carefully and the price had changed to $79. So I paid $79. I called State Line to ask them and they told me it was a 'Computer Error' and the price is $79. With snapshots of the price at $49 and with the call center rep was able to physically see the price at $49 I was told the real price was $79. I spoke with both a supervisor and manager at State Line I was told I could always return the halters AT MY EXPENSE and that would be fine.

Likes: The halters are gorgeous. The minute they arrived I was thrilled. I have two Perri's Leather Halters, one Beiler's Leather Halter, two Danzig Bros Leather Halters and the three Tory Leather Halters. Tory uses the best oiliest leather (which I prefer) and the chin strap is thicker than on my Perri's and Beiler's. It is such a shame the workmanship is so poor.

Dislikes: Purchased two of these halters thinking they would be good Xmas gifts. They are all defective and must be seconds. I am wondering if State Line only sells seconds. Their prices are lower and I have had similar issues with other items purchased at State Line. Their prices are great but the quality for identical items purchased elsewhere is never the same. One halter has a defective clip on the throat latch. The manufacturer tried to hammer the clip down to make it usable (instead of replacing it) but the throat latch clip still would not open and I can not slip the halter over the horses head. The brass buckles on the crown piece are not shaped correctly and one has a sharp edge. The leather keepers were not sized correctly and came apart. The brass fittings on the other halter are tarnished and discolored (I don't think it is real brass, I have never seen brass this color). And lastly, the stitching where the soft padded leather is sewn on does not overlap correctly and the stitching had started to come undone on all three crown pieces before they arrived.

Quality: I am very disappointed in the quality of these halters. If it was only one, I could excuse it. But each halter that I purchased is worse than the next and each one has different problems. Looks like Tory has a real quality control issue and State Line does not really care. When I called State Line to have them replaced, State Line told me I had to take photos in order to return them. In the end I had to call the manufacturer and Tory Leather had to call State Line and force them to take back the Halters.

Summary: There are so many tack shops out there and so many on-line sellers. State Line has very poor customer service and their products, while cheaper, are iffy. And Tory Leather has a real quality control problem. The leather on these halters is gorgeous. But Tory Leather buys that. The workmanship is terrible. My leather halters from Danzig Bros, Perri's and Beiler's (Beilers has the best quality) are all perfect. The Tory Leather Halter is pretty.
