Purchase: I bought this saddle used off a friend a year ago. I payed about $200 although they normally retail for around $500.
Likes: Everything! I bough the VSS (close-contact style AP) "Siegfried" model because I jump more often than I ride dressage. The saddle fit me and my horse very well as well as the many horses I exercise. My own horse is a big-shouldered TB-type Appendix and it fit her amazingly, as well as the little arabs and welshes, high shouldered TB's, and big WB's I rode and exercised. I used it for low-level dressage shows and I found it very easy to ride in long stirrups despite the more forward flaps. It gave me a perfect position and held my leg very nicely. For jumping I could ride almost anything. Horses that ducked out at the last minute were no longer a problem because the saddle held me so nicely. I also used it for flat classes and it looks so nice! This saddle truly is an all around saddle. Plus the saddle is more than 10 years old now and doesn't look it! It looks just like it did 10 year ago! The leather never discoloured despite the many hours it's been used. The stirrup leathers never wore patches on the leather and all the stitching has held together. Nothing has had to be fixed. It is truly an amazing saddle!
Dislikes: Nothing. I eventually had to sell it when the level I was showing at was too high for me to have just an AP and had to trade it in for a dressage saddle and a jumping saddle. That was a sad day.
Quality: Excellent! In the ten years me and my friend had this saddle, despite all the miles we put on it, it never showed any signs of wear and tear. None of the stitching came undone and the leather stayed so soft and supple, never cracked no matter how long it went without cleaning.
Summary: A truly excellent saddle, worthy of the Stubben name! I think it is probably one of my favourite Stubben saddles ever. I would recommend this saddle to anyone, no matter if they're beginner or expert!
