Purchase: I bought this saddle on EBay (Germany) after being unable to find one for a better price here in Canada or the US. I paid about $1,200 CAD including shipping.
Likes: I love the security this saddle gives me. I feel connected to the horse, not perched on top like some saddles can do. The knee roll is supportive but not restricting. The wide seat is super comfortable and the narrow twist allow my legs to hang down straighter and closer to the horse's sides. It has helped me with keeping my thigh closer to my horse so I can use it more effectively.
Dislikes: Nothing with the saddle itself, but I do dislike that many saddle pads do not have velcro straps long enough to connect to the billets. This is mainly because the billet system designed to distribute the weight evenly has the first billet beginning near the bottom of the flap thus unable to accommodate the velcro-strap.
Another issue, independent of the quality of the saddle that it does not fit wide backed horses that well, although I do find it to fit a reasonable range of horses and their backs from med wide to narrow. The banana panels act directly the opposite of gusseted panels.
Quality: Excellent quality and construction. Beautiful and pleasing to the eye but also functional. The leather is soft and the billets are flexible without being stretched. I can see some stitching when wiping the panels which look really tight and evenly spaced.
Summary: I wish Jaguar would also make a dressage saddle better suited to wider-backed horses. I am certain there is a market as these saddles have a fabulous reputation for construction, comfort and price.
