Purchase: I had purchased an older Berney saddle and loved it so much that I contacted the manufacturer in Ireland to buy a brand new one. The quality is excellent and the price is very reasonable. I paid $1100.00 USD for the saddle and was not charged for shipping from Ireland to the USA. The owner of the company is very nice and had me do a wither tracing prior to him making my saddle for my horse. No extra charge for making the tree a custom fit!
Likes: The leather is very durable and the saddle is more comfortable than a Stubben. It has a deep seat and I feel secure when riding.
Dislikes: I can't think of anything that I don't like about my Berney saddle.
Quality: It has a spring tree and is nicely flocked. It does not have the cut-back at the withers like some saddle do but it still fits my TB very well. It is low priced but definitely not low quality! I see no reason to spend thousands of dollars when you can buy a great saddle from Berney for half (or more than half) than you would pay for one of the "big name" saddles.
Summary: If you can find a used one, I would recommend buying it. If you want a new saddle, just contact the company directly in Ireland. I was able to do everything via email and fax and it was an easy and enjoyable experience. You will actually be dealing with the Berney family directly, not a rep for the company.
