Manufacturer: Australian Stock Saddle Co.
Model: Leather Maverick
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I had been looking on line for almost a year for saddles, because my Fox Trotter filly was too young to ride. I came across the Australian Stock Saddle Co. web site and kept going back to it, time and time again. For trail riding, safety, and comfort, for me and my horse, the Australian crossbreed saddle, is perfect. I was ready to order my saddle, so I called Colin and was going to order a cordura maverick, or bronco poly. He just got the Leather Maverick in, a saddle that took him 1 1/2 years to develop, and he was telling me about it. It was just what I wanted in a saddle, for just $695. The accessories that I added, the tree adjustment, and shipping, brought the total to $865. I bought it sight unseen. Colin's reputation, knowledge, and experience, is top notch. So, I wasn't worried about anything.
Likes: Buying it sight unseen, my wife and I were so excited when our saddle arrived. When we opened the box, all we could say was WOW,WOW,WOW! This saddle has the WOW factor all over it. The saddle looks like it would cost double what we paid. There is nothing, nothing, cheap about this saddle. The leather is very high quality, and the hardware is hardy and beefy, and the stitching is very well done. Even the monkey strap matches the dark, chocolate brown color of the saddle. The tackaberry cinching system is so cool and easy to use, that my wife can easily cinch and uncinch the saddle. The weight and size is not heavy and cumbersome, like the western saddle. You won't get a hernia putting it on. My horse just looked at me and smiled when I put it on her. I could see in her eyes that she was saying, " yeah, baby, that's what I'm talking about". The saddle tree has a 10 yr. warranty, and because the saddle has stirrup bars, you can ride all day and not hurt or put any pressure on your knees. Colin fit the tree to my horse's wither tracing, and it fits her perfectly, and even other horses at the barn that I ride. Australian saddles are great for gaited or non gaited horses. It is a fabulous saddle.
Dislikes: Nothing, absolutely nothing.
Quality: Like I said before, the saddle is a very high quality saddle. The design, construction, leather quality, hardware, and stitching is very well done. It is very comfortable for me and my horse. Colin did an exceptional job designing, and constructing this saddle. It is a beautiful, functional, safe, comfortable, worry free saddle that will last me a life time. All for just $865.
Summary: I would highly recommend staying away from cheap saddles that are sold on the market today, just for safety reasons. Colin designs and makes high quality saddles that are safe, comfortable, and that will last a life time, and that will fit any budget. I can put my wife, and I, on a saddle from the Australian Stock Saddle Co., and know that I have put ourselves, and our horses, on a high quality, safe saddle that can be trusted. Colin and his staff are exceptional, and fun to work with.
