Purchase: I purchased this saddle used for $200 from a private seller because it fit a little "hard to fit" mare I was training.
Likes: Overall it's a decent saddle. Other than training the little mare, I mostly use it for trail riding and I've become a fan of the hardseat when I'm spending 5+ hours sitting in it! It fits smaller QHs like a glove, and whenever someone else rides in it I always get compliments on how comfortable it actually is.
Dislikes: This saddle is UGLY! I know it's the most minor, picky point when reviewing a saddle, but I don't like the look of this saddle at all! The leather is died a dark, reddish brown that is impossible to match and the skirts are halfway between round and square. The tooling is obviously stamped and shallow. On a more serious note, I find this saddle pulls my legs too far forward and sits me in too much of a "chair" position. I've tried re-adjusting the fenders but I find my legs are always pulled forward anyway. I prefer a more balanced riding position, particularly when doing ringwork.
Quality: This saddle is well built with very decent quality. It was built in June of 1999 and is still in great shape. The tree is sound after being used regularly, the leather is thick but supple, the rigging is attached to the tree at the 3/4 position, with the option for a flank cinch in the skirt, and the seat is comfortable for long hours in the saddle. It has SQHB, and it fits smaller horses really well. I got a deal purchasing this saddle for only $200!
Summary: If you're looking for a lasting, comfortable trail saddle that won't break the bank, I highly recommend a Simco Rimrock Pleasure saddle.
