Purchase: After my horse "ate" my international helmet, I went helmet shopping at a small tack shop. The Tipperary costs $62.
Likes: This is, without a doubt, the most comfortable helmet that I have ever worn. It fits like a glove and comes with extra padding to ensure an even better fit. Normally, I put the helmet on at the last minute, but this troxel is so nice to wear that I put it on even before lunging or long-lining.
Helmet buying is generally best-done in person, since heads are shaped differently. In the past, I have worn "large" helmets in other brands, but needed an extra-large Sportage, so trying it out in person saved me from wrongly buying a large. The Sportage extends further down the skull in the back, which I really like.
Did I mention that this is a COMFORTABLE helmet :-)?
Dislikes: I like everything about the Sportage. It could have been an ego-deflater to find out that the extra-large was needed, but it is so nice to wear, I don't mind knowing my head is so big LOL.
Again, because head shape varies, please try on the helmets in person to find what works best for you.
Quality: Good quality. Love the shape and the fact that it seems to protect more of the skull. No pressure points and the adjustable padding makes a great fit possible.The chin strap is also comfortable.
Summary: For my head, no helmet has fit better than the Tipperary Sportage. For those showing at "A" Hunter shows, it is not a traditional helmet. However, for eventing, show jumping, or pleasure riding, it makes a great choice. Again, please try one on in person as the sizing is different from other brands I have had.
