Charles Owen
Pro II Skull Cap
English Chaps/Boots/Helmets

Manufacturer: Charles Owen
Model: Pro II Skull Cap
Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets

Purchase: I purchased this helmet at Dover Saddlery for $189.99. I am planning to event, so I bought this helmet for the cross country phase.

Likes: I have a round head shape, so I needed a helmet that was compatible for round heads, and not oval. I love Charles Owen's because they are such high quality, last for a long time, and have very high safety ratings. This helmet pressed on my temple's a little bit (Compared to the CO J3 skull cap) but I chose it over the J3 because of the vents on the front. I live in the south, where heat and humidity are killer, so vents in a helmet are a must. It is a very high quality helmet, and I very much recommend it. It is what all the eventing professionals wear, so you will really look the part!

Dislikes: There isn't really anything I dislike about this helmet, besides the price... but it is much less than a hospital bill after you crack your skull open from hitting a solid cross country fence. It's worth the price!

Quality: This helmet has 6 vents in the front, and 2 round vents in the back. This makes it much cooler than any of the other skull caps available. CO's "Sux technology" is a suction cup inside the leather padding on each side that wraps around the back of your head. This makes for a much more custom fit because it really forms to your head. The back has laces so you can tighten/loosen it to fit the back of your head correctly. The back part (where the laces and suctions are) is also very padded, which adds both comfort and extra protection. The cover is held on by the texture on the shell of the helmet, which almost feels like sandpaper, so it really grips the cover so it won't come off, even when you're galloping across a cross country course.

Summary: This helmet is a must for anyone who events (or anyone who wants more protection in any equestrian sport). The fit is great and very customizable. You can even buy a custom cover from Sipps Silks to coordinate it with the rest of your cross country gear colors! It's extremely high quality, and sits deep on your head so it covers all of your skull, really protecting it. It is entirely worth the cost.
