Purchase: I had two gaited horses and one gaited horse saddle. The difference in the gaited horse saddle from other saddles is the twist in the tree. There are only TWO saddle makers I've found who actually make a saddle on the CORRECT tree, made for a gaited horse. Freedom saddle (or Casa Dosa) and CTK saddle (through Sycamore Creek Saddles.
The saddle I first bought is a Freedom saddle and I love everything about it. It fits my Rocky and me very comfortably. Since my funds were limited to buy the second saddle, I decided to take a chance and order a custom saddle from CTK.
Likes: Tony Pritchett, at Sycamore Creek Saddles, was VERY helpful and careful to make sure all my concerns were addressed. I ordered a custom version of the model SSS006. Since we train our horses in the classical method, it was VERY important to me to have the saddle makers skive the seat, to make it flatter, and to put the rider in a more centered position, like a dressage saddle and like the Freedom saddle. Since this saddle was for my son, who has a 36" inseam, the stirrup leathers are extra long. We also had the fenders modified to be shaped like the model SSS008 fenders, without the bling. I had multiple correspondence with Tony and each time he was very patient in understanding what we needed in a saddle. The saddle arrived 5 weeks later, and we are VERY pleased!
Dislikes: The only item that was not what we ordered was the seat color. We consider it a small and minor glitch in the multiple custom requests that were made!
Quality: I was a little hesitant about the quality of the leather when I ordered the saddle, but when it arrived, I found the workmanship and leather to be of very high quality! The leather arrived soft and supple and the workmanship is careful and neat. It is apparent that whoever made the saddle takes pride in their craft!
Summary: I am very pleased with the service from Sycamore Creek Saddles and the quality and workmanship of CKT Saddlery. For the price, (less than half the cost of the Freedom saddle), if I need another gaited horse saddle, I would not hesitate to order another custom CTK!
I would recommend CTK to anyone who is looking for a gaited horse saddle.
