Likes: Cowboy Up & learn to be a great Header in Team Roping!
World Champion Walt Woodard, known for his great roping schools, teaching & roping talent, puts it all on video in this series.
This is Volume #1, “Better Heading”. It is packed with information including ground work & analyzing in slo-mo full team roping runs. It also covers in depth choosing a rope, building a loop, hand & arm position during the swing, techniques to feel the tip of the rope, delivery, pulling your slack, setting up the run, giving your heeler a good handle, how a horse faces.
As few of us have the “Perfect” NFR/USTRC qualified team roping horse, a big added bonus not found in a lot of roping videos is: it also teaches the basics of rope horse training by tracking an inanimate “Buford” steer, & “logging” for beginner, or horses that need a tune-up.
I have been to a Walt Woodard Team Roping School, & this video follows the order, & even sometimes to the exact words he uses in the school! He is talented, funny, quick & a great motivator!
Heres a Tip: As he says in the video, using a big “Man Sized” hay bale will help your ground dummy roping immensely! And, "You Will Feel Better about Yourself!" :)
Dislikes: The video is 1 hour and 49 minutes. I only wish it was even longer as he is really a great teacher!
Quality: Not Applicable.
Summary: In my opinion, Walt Woodard is a great teacher. I like his style of teaching better than other team roping instructors out there (& I have seen the other roping videos - Heading and Heeling both).
The other instructors, while they also have good information, their delivery is very dry and mundane.
Walt Woodard keeps your attention as he incorporates teaching, humor and talent, as well as you can tell, he really loves what he does!
