Purchase: I purchased my saddle direct from The Guffeys. I wanted a heavy duty saddle I could use to do anything I wanted too. I paid 650.00 in 2010. Price has gone up some now due to leather supply.
Likes: Love this saddle. Its comfortable and was made exactly how I wanted it. I originally called and placed the order but decided since it was only a two hour drive I would go meet them, see the trees, then place my order. It was a great experience and I came away with good knowledge of saddle construction from the ground up. It fit my mare great and with the long rides we have been on, up to 8 hours she has not been sore.
Dislikes: The leather is a little stiff but with leather conditioner it has softened nicely.
Cannot think of anything else I don't like this is an awesome saddle.
Quality: The Guffeys were willing to do whatever asked. This was a custom made saddle with a Wade style wooden tree wrapped in fiberglass. The Horn I chose was large style about three inches across the top 2 inches high and is made of steel, bolted into the tree before the fiberglass was applied. I requested a medium oil with black seat and the horn be wrapped in hide. 6 ties with D rings to take anything with me. It is 7 inch gullet with FQHB. The craftsmanship is really good and the saddle fits me and my mare great. She has not been sore. It is a heavy duty all purpose saddle and will probably be around when I am not.
Summary: Love this saddle and would recommend a custom from them anytime.
