Purchase: My cob type horse had proven difficult to fit in her English saddle and impossible in a western. I spent months asking saddle makers in the US to custom make a trail saddle for her, but only one followed through with my enquiries -Staci at Allegany. As I live in NZ most of our communications were emails and Staci treated me as if I lived next door.Although all final decisions were in person, the fitting of the tree was a joint venture using a selection of information. I chose a Cascade Wade with alot of conchos, and matching rear cynch, breastplate and bridle. I also chose extras such as the ultra special padded seat, endurance stirrups, cheyenne roll and crupper D's, adjustable rigging,sheepskin lining, plus some tooling. The cost was around US$2300 which included almost US$500 freight to NZ.
Likes: The fit of the saddle on my horse is perfect and the comfort on my aging bones is heaven.Staci has taken my shape into account when instructing the builders and the saddle is truely 'made for me'.Weight has been kept low but with an all leather product. The rigging is no fuss and the colour is so beautiful I often catch myself simply looking at it. The decorations on the saddle are impressive and unique without screaming. It was wonderful to have options available and also to have advice on how those options may turn out. I love the affordability.
Dislikes: What is not to like? Its so beautiful and fits!! That's the ultimate.
Quality: The construction is first class. All sewing is straight and tight. Studs are even, tooling is balanced. The hardware is
Stainless, and matches throughout the saddle and accesseries. The leather is high quality with a richness of colour rarely seen here. When the saddle arrived there wasn't a mark on it - great sturdy packaging - quality right to the end.
Summary: My saddle is impressive. Custom tree made perfectly for a horse half a world away. Staci is gifted - dealing with people, equestrian knowledge and artistic flare. Superb quality and design yet practical, the saddle I purchased is a work of art while at the same time is totally functional up the hill or down the river. Allegany saddles are a must have for any horse and rider especially if you would like something unique.
