Purchase: I first spotted these on eBay, but wound up buying directly from the online store, www.redturfranch.com . I've since purchased three headstalls here, ranging in price from $90-$120.
Likes: If you are looking for something special, original, and functional for everyday riding as well - you will LOVE the offerings here! High quality (mostly Weaver Leather) headstalls, breastplates, and other tack accessories are hand-beaded with real gemstones and real silver accents. One-of-a-kind pendants are also offered (I have a turquoise nugget & silver, my husband has a carved elk horn feather) and Gail is great about looking for that special something if you ask.
A wide variety of gemstone beading is offered: turquoise, coral, jade, mother-of-pearl, obsidian, lapis, amethyst...you name it, she'll find it. Beads are available from natural chips to tumbled ovals, diamonds, cylindrical shapes.
Tack finishes are offered in Light, Medium, Dark oil, some in Black, some have Rawhide accents, many different browband styles. Matching reins available, too. Just ask.
ENGLISH BROWBANDS are also available. Very reasonable pricing.
Dislikes: I haven't ordered the Light Oil tack, but it is VERY light (a friend got this) and may take a long time to get a nice patina.
Also, if you have a horse that will try to rub his head on you (I do, we are working on this!), be careful if you have a Premier Pendant! Mine must've rubbed off one of the little silver feathers - but Gail mailed me a replacement right away.

Quality: High-quality leather is the used. All gemstones are REAL, not glass or plastic imitation! Unique array of Specialty Pendants.
Gail has a good, artistic eye for pattern and color. Her craftsmanship is wonderful and she stands 100% behind her work. Beading is wired on, inside of headstall is then padded with soft suede. They 'field test' their work - using it for everyday trail riding (so do we!). However, this tack would be STUNNING as show equipment or parade wear!
Summary: A great, unique, quality item. Red Turf Ranch is wonderful to work with, eager to do custom orders, and very prompt and friendly. Highly recommended.
