Category: Dressage Saddles
Purchase: I purchased this saddle used on ebay for $250 plus shipping.
Likes: After test riding an older consignment AP Collegiate ( which fit me like a glove, but not my horse)- I decided collegiate must be the saddle for me!
Upon recept of this used 17" Collegiate Monarch dressage saddle, I was happy with the impeccable condition of the leather, despite its age. The leather was soft and with out cracks.
I was also happy that the thigh/ Knee rolls were velcro adjustable.
The spring tree is great and really makes for a nice ride. It was apparent with this saddle and the previous AP I had tested ,that my QH mare appreciates the freedom of movement provided by the Collegiate spring trees.
Back to the leather- as acclaimed by Collegiate, the panels DO in fact allow for great contact , and form to your leg and the horses barrel.
Dislikes: After a few second in this saddle it was apparent it was NOT the ride for me.
The seat was shallow and provided NO support for my bum. I found my hips being tilted back in a jumping position.
When I attempted to canter I was tilled so oddly that I lost balance and felt as though I would slid off the back of the saddle. Like wise, I was completely prevented from bracing, driving or using my seat to support myself.
I really like a tight deep seat- and this was NOT one.
The day after my 1st & last ride in this thing , I placed the saddle on my local Craigs List for $200. A young lady purchased the saddle from me the next day, as she needed a dressage saddle for 3 day eventing. The girl text me the same evening that "the saddle rode weird, and did not fit her horse". (For the record I did offer her a chance to test ride in it).
A few weeks later while shopping ebay, I noticed that very saddle on ebay for an opening bid of 99 cents. - NEED I SAY MORE.
Quality: BAD BAD BAD - dont bother with it- not for an extra
-not for a 1st saddle
-not for anything but leather or parts!!!
Collegiate... what the heck were you thinking or drinking when you created this thing???
BTW- The AP I mentioned was fantastic though.
