Purchase: Purchased brand new on Ebay for $50 2 years ago. I had heard that they were the best splint boots around and wanted to give them a try. I ride a variety of western disciplines and needed something that would really protect my horse.
Likes: I love the way the conform to my horse's legs. They seem to give terrific support and do a great job keeping out dirt and debris. I like the full coverage, not just inside coverage like you get from traditional splint boots. The warmth the Neoprene creates helped to keeped the tendons from getting stiff through rugged workouts.
I use these with a pair of No-Turn bell boots and feel that the combination provides complete front leg protection.
Dislikes: The only things I found negative was that the repeated use of the velcro does eventually break down the outer material which causes lot of fuzzy bulidup and can make the velcro harder to latch eventually. Keep in mind though, I used this pair extensively (4-5 days/week) for a couple years before I had to replace them due to wear.
Quality: The Neoprene helped to keep the heat in, debris out. Remeber to rinse your horse's legs off after each workout so that the sweat doesn't build up and irritate his skin.
Summary: I will continue to buy these boots. They have come our with a newer style that has edging around it, but I am concerned that it would rub. These SMB II's work perfectly for the reining, barrels, and heavy training I put my horse through.
