Purchase: I purchased this saddle for my draft cross after she outgrew our a-framed Wintec saddle. I was told that I should look for a hoop tree saddle, but was having a hard time finding one within my sub-$1000 price range. Duett saddles were brought to my attention, and are a great value for people looking for a hoop tree saddle on a budget. They can still be tricky to find used. New they are around $1500. I purchased this saddle off of Craigslist.
Likes: A very affordable and well made saddle for anybody on a budget. This saddle fits both my horse and myself well. It is wool flocked, which is rare in this price range any more, and can be adjusted by a saddler. The leather quality reminds me of the old Collegiate saddles before they were bought out by Weatherbetta. It is thick, sturdy, can take a couple of hits without damage, and looks like it will last us a long time.
Dislikes: The seat sizes tend to run small. I had to go up to an 18.5 to get the feeling of an 18 inch saddle. The leather tends to bleed brown when my horse sweats enough to get the saddle pad wet.
Quality: I believe that this saddle is one of the best that you can get within this price range. It feels sturdy, and I think will last us a long time. Stitching and rivets are all tight. No cheap nails or construction.
Summary: I love this saddle and will likely buy the dressage version in the future.
