Purchase: When I bought my little quarter horse (14.2 hands) he had obviously been under saddles that were ill fitting. He had the telling white patch of hair on his withers and was cinchy. So started the quest for the best fitting saddle that I could afford . It was no easy task. I borrowed and bought numerous saddles to no avail, he was not a happy camper, taking to dropping and rolling under saddle . It was getting dangerous ! So as a last resort I researched custom saddles but it all seemed too risky and expensive . If I measured wrong then I would be stuck with a saddle that would be hard to sell and still have nothing for my own horse. Then I came upon the Stonewall Saddle Company . It seemed too good to be true, a custom saddle at a reasonable price and local. I could take my horse to them and they would measure him and fit the saddle. The saddle we got was a refurbished one that looked like new and fitted us both perfectly and the price ticket of $1000 was money well spent.
Likes: The saddle is so light at 12lbs and easy to work with that I don't think I'll ever try lifting a western one again. It centers the rider in a really deep seated position perfect for those moments of spookiness and what I like most of all is the fact my horse is comfortable.
Dislikes: The only problem I have with the stonewall is that my horse is totally spoiled now and won't let me put any other saddle on his back. To be honest though it is the same for me I don't enjoy riding on anything else.
Quality: The saddle is very simple and well constructed. The memory foam cushioning is on top and underneath so both the horse and rider benefit from it. Many of the parts are replaceable and the saddle itself can be refleeced if necessary. As I said my saddle was refurbished and I believe was about 15 years old. I've had it for 5 years, ride with it a few times a week and it still looks great. looks great.
Summary: I am so glad I found the Stonewall Company. Jackie the owner is very pleasant ant helpful. The saddle worked out so well for me that my husband, who was also having saddle issues with his high withered appendix, got a custom saddle for him too. I would highly recommend this company to anyone having any problems finding a saddle. You won't regret it.
