Purchase: Dark Horse Saddlery (based in Alberta) sells Zaldi tack and had a booth at the Equine Expo in Saskatoon, so I decided to check out their products. The owner initially seemed helpful and told me about the different jumping saddles. She seemed to care more about telling me about her saddles than about listening to what I was looking for. They ranged from $2000-3000.
I have been jumping for about 10 years and have rode in many brands of saddles. I know enough to know if a saddle is a bad fit for me before I ever put it on a horse. I don't remember which model it was, but one of them made me feel very unbalanced and uncomfortable. That was when the owner of Dark Horse said I looked perfect and that was the one for me! It wasn't even the right seat size for me! Was she lying, saying anything to try to con me into buying from her or is she incompetant? I told her I was uncomfortable and then she had the nerve to say it was because I was a man and I obviously needed lessons in how to arrange my junk! Needless to say, I left in a hurry. I will not be buying from Dark Horse Saddlery any time soon!
Likes: I like the fact that you can order their saddles in a variety of colours.
Dislikes: The leather is very stiff and slippery. The orange colour is hideous. I have no idea if it becomes more supple with use, but you would think she would have put the effort into making the demo saddles the best they could be, so my guess is that Zaldi leather remains stiff and slippery forever.
Quality: Seemed sturdy but I only sat in it at a horse expo, so have no way of knowing if the construction is actually good or not.
Summary: I do not recommend buying from Dark Horse Saddlery. The owner has zero customer service skills.
