Purchase: I bought this saddle used for $275 in 2006 from CM Tack in Shawnee, KS. I bought it because the Kincade I had bought from State Line Tack did not work out at all and I needed a close contact saddle.

Likes: This was my favorite saddle growing up, and the absolute best saddle to learn in! It is a classic old school plain flap saddle with no blocks, so you really learn how to ride correctly without relying on the saddle. It's a nice, quality made saddle, especially for the price. It also has a padded seat, so it's very comfortable. I've used it on a variety of horses with no issues as well.

Dislikes: There isn't anything I dislike about it except for the fact that I outgrew it!

Quality: The older Collegiate saddles from when Miller's still owned the brand and they were still made in Argentina by Ruiz Diaz (with the RD stamp) were very well made for the price, and this saddle is no exception! Most of the stitching is still intact save for a spot where the panel attaches to the underside of the flap, but it doesn't affect its usability and was that way when I got it 12 years ago and hasn't gotten any worse. The leather is soft and pliable, and of good quality. It does have some surface cracking in the seat, but is also at least 20 years old, and it is only cosmetic and not deep at all. The foam panels are still in good shape and the tree is sound. It's well designed and put together. These older Collegiate saddles far surpass the quality and comfort of the ones made today.

Summary: I love this saddle and would take it over many higher end brands any day! It was the best saddle I could've learned in, and I would suggest it to anyone looking to improve their riding or as a first saddle!
