Purchase: My barn, Verden Stables, was sponsored by Stubben (they got the signage and have it on their farm website that they are thusly sponsored), and we had a "custom" fitting. I paid roughly $5000 for the saddle, stirrups, leathers and girth.
Likes: Nice leather and pretty to look at. Comfortable to sit in.
Dislikes: It doesn't fit my horse. I have attempted for the past year to tell Stubben that the tree itself doesn't fit, as attested to by my veterinarian, chiropractor, PEMF representative, masseuse, trainer, farrier, a competing saddle's CEO, a Stubben trained fitter, and my horse itself. It makes him back sore and difficult to ride, often making him rear instead of give his shoulder due to the fact that there's nowhere for his shoulder to go.
Quality: It's pretty to look at. I assume it's well made. It hasn't fallen apart since I got it, but I also treat it well. But it's most definitely not a custom fit. I even argued with the fitter that my horse has never been a narrow tree and prefers wide. She assured me that he was a 27cm tree. This saddle not only doesn't ride like the one she had me test but sits a full fist width above his withers WITHOUT pads.
Summary: This saddle hurts my horse, and they refuse to give any money back. They say their own fitter has to come out to verify and lie about Verden being sponsored and anyone else's credentials. They would rather hurt my horse by having me ride in it for their person, who I can never get out to look at the thing. Poor customer service, poor fit, poor follow through, not even a custom saddle. I'm pretty sure they picked one of their overstock saddles that they couldn't move and sent it to me instead to get rid of stock that no one would buy. I would rate it as a zero if I could.
