Purchase: I found the saddle online via Ebay. They were selling a custom made roping saddle for prices that seemed unreal. A buddy of mine had bought a #137 Roper from them and gave 375.00 he said he couldn't touch it in a store for 700.00. So I decided to give the Masters Series a try.
Likes: I love this saddle. I paid 650.00 for one with a 10 yr warranty and an ostrich seat. It has the best leather I have seen on a saddle in years. These people are REAL saddlemakers. I called and ordered this to be handmade. Locally I would have paid 1800.00 for a saddle like this. My local saddlemaker said he wouldn't build it for 1000.00. It fits my horse like a glove and has really thick sheepskin underneath. A high quality Steele Equi-fit Tree and total hand carving.
Dislikes: Nothing at all it is perfect!
Quality: Construction of the saddle starts with a very good tree..it sits very comfortable. The seat foam is very thick. The leather is the thickest most supple I have seen on a saddle in 20 years. They use Herman Oak leather. All the leather is latigo lined and the rigging is all secured very firmly to the tree. This saddle is unreal. I feel like I can hook a mountain to it. It weighs 44 lbs. They told me the guy that built the saddle managed Crate Saddlery for years. I can tell...the quality is superb.
Summary: I would have to say if you are looking for a saddle and don't try Riders Choice you will be sorry. After spending big bucks lately on cheaply made imported Billy Cooks and Circle Y's I called them and had a roper handmade for half of the Big named saddles. This is the best saddle purchase of my life. I am sure their order lists will be filling up soon.
