Manufacturer: Toklat
Model: Built Up Cut Back Premium Southwest Pad
Category: Western Saddle Fittings/Pads
Purchase: I bought this pad at my local tack store, brand new..at around $75.00 last year. I bought this western pad because I was in need of something that wouldnt sore my horses back after long trail-rides. I bought the cut-back style thinking my horse had a high wither(although I was wrong!), but the pad still worked fine for her.
Likes: What I enjoy most about this saddle pad is the extra layers of padding located on the shoulder blade section. I believe it relieves pressure from the saddle, making the horse able to bear the pressure/weight from the rider. Its a lovely soft pad, and its lightweight! It comes in many unique color patterns that are pleasing to the eye. It settles real nicely on the back of my horse. It think it conformed to her back. The pad doesnt stick up in any places and is comfortable to the horse. It doesnt have a felt underside, so it doesnt cause static or the moving of fur while riding. It hasnt worn its color or taken in the saddle staining. Its still sticking up to weather conditions. I havent washed it since I got it and its holding up real nice still. No threads have torn, or leathers worn. I rode this thing in the rain before. It doesnt keep in the yucky horse sweat smells either. There is no signs of wearing or stress on my horses back. You can ride it with just the one pad.
Dislikes: There is nothing much I can say about disliking it. I guess it causes alot of sweating when your REALLY working the horse. Its not water-proof, but then again..what saddle pad is?
Quality: Its not to thick, not too thin. The leathers are kind of light(thin) on the product but are stitched up tight. They come in many patterns, but the one I have isnt worn or anything over the times Ive used it(Im at the barn 2-3x a week). I think all of them have a black underside and If im not mistaken, they all have double padding on the shoulders. The fur doesnt get trapped easily in the pad.
Summary: In conclusion, this is an exellent pad to use if your on a long trail ride, reining, or barrel racing. If you do cows then I recommend a different pad with a cooling system, since this one makes the horse sweat during rough workouts(and I mean ROUGH). But if you prefer something with nice color, nice quality, and great for your horse..I suggest the Toklat Southwest Premium Pad.
