Sofride
All Purpose Saddles
Manufacturer: Crosby
Model: Sofride
Category: All Purpose Saddles
Purchase: Purchased on eBay for $1,000. They retail for $1900.
Likes: The most comfortable ride imaginable. Beautiful chic style in soft smooth bridle leather. Comes in black! (Rare in a saddle you can jump with.) Fits my horse to a "T".
Dislikes: If you are jumping in the saddle, you must have a strong leg. The knee pads are small and hidden...Not for wimpy riders.
Quality: Excellent construction and beauty. I keep mine polished and gleaming on a saddle stand in my living room between rides.
Summary: This is a $2000 saddle that can be ordered from State Line Tack, and other reputable tack stores. If you are lucky and conscientious about searching the internet, you may find a deal. It sometimes can be found reasonably on eBay. Before I was fortunate enough to own a Crosby Sofride, I had always admired the saddle from afar, and always wanted one because of its soft smooth leather, cushy seat, and super comfortable ride. And, it is absolutely the most beautiful saddle I have ever seen or owned. I bought the wide tree size which fits superbly on my wide-backed warmblood. I am a jumper rider, so I was skeptical about it having enough of a forward seat. It does. I feel I do not have to fight the saddle to sit positioned properly, or to be in a good position for a release over a jump. Also, it is unbeatable for extended trail rides. I went on a 13 mile ride and suffered not a single sore muscle afterward! And, this was after I had been 'grounded' after a shoulder injury, so my muscles were somewhat out of shape. The saddle has hidden, small knee pads...so it is not a saddle for wanna-be jumper riders with a weak leg who like to dig into a deep knee roll. Another thing I love, is that you can buy it in black. Most jumping saddles are brown. I have a gorgeous grey Abdullah mare, and the black color offsets her color magnificently. So, she is the perfect picture of chic beauty as she sails over those big jumps while tacked in her black Crosby Sofride Saddle. I highly recommend the saddle, and I am very proud to own one.
