Purchase: I purchased the Bates Caprilli brand new for $1695. The reason I went with the Bates is because of the CAIR gullet system. I was riding multiple horses.
Likes: At first I liked the saddle. The position it put me in, the movable knee rolls and it fit the horse I was riding at the time perfectly (17.2 TB).
Dislikes: What I became disappointed about is when I changed to a different horse (17.1 Warmblood) I changed the gullet and the saddle fit my horse, but my position changed in the saddle. I started throwing me forward. Then I tried in on a 16.1 Warmblood and I could not get it to fit. She was in between a medium and a medium narrow. So much the the gullet system to fit to any horse!
Quality: The leather seems to be soft and OK quality. The gullet system is not that easy to change.
Summary: I was talked into this saddle because they said it would fit to any horse. I know purchased a used Schleese for the same cost I purchased the new Bates and I like it 100% better. The quality of the leather is better. It puts you in a solid position. The Schleese can really be fitted to any horse not the Bates.
