Model: Orican High Neck Turnout Sheet (View all Orican High Neck Turnout Sheet reviews)
Purchase: I ordered this from www.adamshorsesupplies.com last spring. I paid about $100. I needed a waterproof/breathable turnout sheet for my pony. I wanted at least 1200 Denier to help avoid rips, and also wanted a high neck sheet. This one met all the requirements so I ordered it for her.
Likes: My pony has been wearing this sheet for a couple of months now and so far it has held up well, it doesn't yet have any rips or tears. The waterproofing is good, she has been in a few heavy rains and it hasn't leaked. The high neck style prevents water from running in around the neck line, so her shoulders stay dry. In cooler weather I can layer a fleece liner beneath it for extra warmth and use it as a mid-weight blanket as well. I also love the beautiful purple color!
Dislikes: This sheet quickly began to rub the hair off of my pony's shoulders! It tightens across her shoulder as she moves, placing a lot of tension on them. The shoulder gusset is placed so far back that it is pretty much pointless. A properly placed gusset (like those on my Rider's International and Scheider's blankets) opens with each step to allow the horse free movement, but the one on this sheet is back behind her leg. I did get her a lycra shoulder guard which prevented the rubs and allowed her hair to grow back in, but if you add in the cost of the required shoulder guard this becomes a fairly pricey sheet. When I use the fleece liner under it I do not need the shoulder guard. This sheet has a nylon mesh liner which is not as soft as I would like. My Rider's sheets have a cotton mesh liner which seems much softer and more comfortable. This sheet has a plain buckle front, which is ok but I prefer the type with clips for convenience.
Quality: The construction and quality are fairly high. The stitching is good, as is the waterproofing. It seems to be fairly strong as it has not ripped yet. Just a note that Weatherbeetas tend to run large. My pony measures 72" and wears a 72 in most other brands, but takes a 69" Weatherbeeta.
Summary: I will not buy another Weatherbeeta for this pony as they don't fit her properly and rub the hair off her shoulders. I have found other brands that fit her better and cost no more (often less). From now on I will stick to horsewear from Schneider's or Dover's Rider's International brand. It's too bad the Weatherbeetas don't fit better because I love the colors they are available in!
