James Saddlery
Colt Revolver Full Flap Special
Horse Miscellaneous

Manufacturer: James Saddlery
Model: Colt Revolver Full Flap Special
Category: Horse Miscellaneous

Purchase: I found James Saddlery by accident. I was originally looking for a deal on Syd Hill Australian saddles and happened to stumble upon www.jamessaddlery.com.au. The sight was a bit bright and eye catching with a bright yellow and black background at first, but then I clicked on a couple of the links to the Australian saddles and absolutely fell in love. You see, James Saddlery not only has almost every type of saddle available, from English to Western, but they mostly concentrate on Australian saddles and they warranty them from five to ten years! They will even custom make you an Australian saddle, to you and your horses specifications! I found the Colt Revolver Special and e-mailed James Saddlery for more info. I thought that they would just be like everybody else and e-mail me back a brief description. Instead they called me from Brisbane Australia and I spoke with Trevor James, the owner! He was really nice and not only described the Colt Revolver in detail, but took the time to listen to what issues I was having trying to fit my Arabian and his sudden spooks while out on patrol. Trevor answered all of my questions right there and then. Not to mention James Saddlery has outfitted the US Mounted Border patrols for both Texas and Arizona. Suffice it to say, I couldn't have chosen a better saddle or saddle maker.

Likes: The Colt Special - US County Sheriff Special w/ Rotating Stirrup Bars: I ordered it in a smooth black leather, bright brass dee rings, Western size 16 1/2" (Australian 17 1/2",) with some light tooling around the flaps and had Trevor add two opal inlay gold badges on the rear. It is a total of 25" in length from front to back and weighs approximately 25 lbs w/o fittings. What makes it unique is that it is a full flap saddle but I chose to have the revolving stirrup bar. It is the first full flap saddle with this feature, and it works so much better than the standard stationary stirrup bar, that it is now offered as an option on all James full flap saddles. It's comfortable for both me and my horse and with it being cut back away from his extremely high withers, he has a better range of motion in his shoulders. The stirrup bars rotate forward, which is a patent held solely by James Saddlery, and allows me to get my feet in front of me in a heartbeat when my Arabian spooks or when we are going down steep hills and embankments! The poley (or thigh pads) and deep seat help keep me in place during a 180 degree spin or when we are working crowd control during an event. All in all, it was money well spent for an excellent saddle, with a exceptional warranty, from a caring, experienced saddlery.

Dislikes: My only issue with my Colt is that I should have asked for a quilted seat w/ extra padding for those long hours on patrol. But a gel seat saver comes in handy for those extra long rides.

Quality: Handmade and hand tooled to you and your horses measurements and specifications over the course of two to three weeks. The stitching, craftsmanship and quality of workmanship and leather is the best I have seen in a long time. Not only is the saddle tree solid, but it has an incredible 10 year warranty on it!

Summary: If your looking for a long lasting, high quality working, pleasure/trail saddle from an experienced saddle maker, I would highly recommend James Saddlery in Brisbane Australia. They not only make quality Australian saddles, but English and Western saddles as well. They listen and care about the welfare of both you and your horse and do it right the first time!
