Horse Boots and Wraps

Manufacturer: Boa
Model: Horse Boots
Category: Horse Boots and Wraps

Purchase: I got a price match for $130 at Jeffers. I thought I researched the product enough, but I guess not.

Likes: I like how they have a turn dial to tighten them. I like that they don't have nails. We did have a 90 day return period, and the company exchanged them with no problems.

Dislikes: I purchased two pair of these boots. The first time we took the horses out, we stressed about the shoe falling off. They have changed the design since. The dial kept popping up, then the shoe would fall off. We got a LOT of harassment from the people we were riding with, because we kept stopping to fix the boots. We had to empty out the sand several times too. I did buy the gators to go with them, but they tore up after one ride. They did NOT keep the sand out. By the end of the weekend both pairs of the boots were ruined. The plastic tore from the cloth portion of the boot. We did have a 90 day return period, and the company exchanged them with no problems. The boots rubbed a hole in my horses hooves. YEP! It rubbed holes like an abscess at the very top of the hoof. Well I had no intention of ever using them again; however, I had an emergency (the shoe fell off in the mountains) on a different horse. You guessed it, it rubbed that horse too. The construction was better and the boot did not tear up. It stayed on, and we didn't have to worry about them falling off either. I had the THREE horses with holes in their hooves like abscesses came out. My farrier TRIED to tell me it was not from the boots, but every time I used them the same thing happened to every hoof I put them on. (five hooves at this point) I had a horse with a real abscess and the farrier wanted me to put the shoe on her, until he arrived. Yep! That mare has the rub mark too! She only had them on three hours. I HATE THEM! I don't care what happens, I will never, NEVER put them on any of my horses. I called Jeffers and they said they would trade the one pair that has never been on a horse for Old Mac's. THANKS JEFFERS, They stand behind what they sell. I might add, it has been over a year since I bought them.

Quality: They have improved the construction, but they rub my horses. The replacement boots stayed on better, and they didn't tear. I didn't put them to the same test as the first two pairs, so they may still be bad.

Summary: I would NEVER recommend Boa Boots to anyone. I dislike them, so much I took the time to write this. A waste of money. I would rather nail shoes in my hoof, at least he hole would grow out in 8 weeks compared to a year. Besides a nail hole is much smaller than the penny size hole these boots left on four of my horses.
