Purchase: I ordered this neck cover from the Schneiders website, www.sstack.com, for $50. I got it about a month ago, in November of 2005. I ordered it along with the matching blanket for my pony mare. I wanted a neck cover to keep her toasty all the way up her neck and to keep rain and snow from running into the blanket's neck opening and down the pony's shoulder.
Likes: This neck cover does its job and seems to be comfortable for the pony. It does not rub her mane, as I have heard some neck covers can do. The waterproofing is pretty good and it has prevented snow from entering the blanket at the neck opening. It keeps my pony warmer and drier than a regular neck blanket alone.
Dislikes: The waterproofing, while good, is not top notch. It did leak some after several hours in a snow storm. It also tends to slip/rotate to the side a bit.
Quality: This neck cover is good quality. It is made of the same waterproof nylon material as the matching blanket, and does not have any rips, tears, or punctures yet.
The neck cover fastens on the underside of the horses neck with three clips. It clips to the blanket in three different places. It also has a velcro loop near the poll that can be attached to a halter.
Summary: I like this neck cover and the matching blanket. I was not sure how I would really feel about the neck cover, having never used one before, but I like it and have left it on whenever she wears the heavyweight blanket. I would not use it in above freezing weather, I think it would be too warm.
