Purchase: I ordered this cooler from the Schneiders website, www.sstack.com, for $50. I got it last month, November 2005. I got it for my pony. I already had a cooler for my other horse, but it was too large to use on the pony.
Likes: I like that this cooler is available in several different sizes. A full size horse cooler is too large for my 14.1 hand pony and drags on the ground. Many pony coolers seem to be quite small, made for ponies closer to 12 hands. I was pleased to discover a nice one in a size that fit. I got the medium size, which the Schneiders website says is for horses that are blanket sizes 70-76. My pony measures a 72 and this cooler fits very well. It offers plenty of coverage without coming close to dragging on the ground.
I like the contoured shape. It covers her neck well to keep her nice and warm. It doesn't move out of place like the square coolers always seem to.
It closes in front with four velcro closures. I like these, they are easy to fasten even if you are wearing gloves and they keep the front closed better and tighter than the ties that many coolers have. It also has a surgingle at the belly, and it came with a tail cord attached to rings at the rear. It has a velcro loop near the poll so that you can attack it to the halter or bridle to keep the neck part from sliding down. It stays in place much better than a square cooler and seems much more practical if the horse is going to spend much time alone in the stall wearing it.
Dislikes: Hmm I can't think of much. The neck part sometimes slides down if you don't use the velcro to attach it to the halter or bridle. The shape means it does not fold up as easily and tidely as a square cooler.
Quality: The quality and construction are good, and at a reasonable price.
Summary: I like this cooler a lot. I am glad I found a nice cooler that fits my pony well. Next time I get a cooler I will get another one with a contoured shape and velcro closures, I like this much better than my old square tie-closure cooler.
