Purchase: I have three of these pads, all ordered from Dover Saddlery for $10 each. I got two in August of 2004 and another one this year. The price in the regular Dover catalog is $18, but you can always find them for only $10 in any Dover sale catalog. They are all-purpose style pads.
Likes: This is a great value, very good quality for the price. They are well made and attractive pads. They have velcro billet straps and girth straps to hold the pad in place. I have never had trouble with one slipping or bunching up. They are available in a variety of attractive colors. I have a black, a navy, and a light blue.
Dislikes: They are only available in an all-purpose style. I wish they made them in dressage and close contact styles too.
I wish they were a little more contoured for better wither clearance. They are okay on my broad backed mares but they probably will not work for a horse with shark-fin withers.
I don't really like the extra cushioning and stitching they have around the wither area. It creates extra bulk between the horse and the saddle.
Quality: The construction and quality are good, with good tight stitching and binding and an attractive appearance. I have used mine heavily during the past year and they have been through the washing machine quite a few times and are still in very good condition. They would still look brand new if it wasn't for minor color fading.
Summary: These are excellent bargain priced saddle pads. If you are looking for an inexpensive schooling pad I suggest you get one (or two, or three, or four).
