English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Manufacturer: Tipperary
Model: Sportage Helmet
Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Purchase: I got this helmet originally from Dover Saddlery, and recently purchased another one from Legacy Tack in Hearne, Texas. I paid about $55 dollars for it both times. I decided to try this helmet when it was time to get a new one after having a basic Troxel schooling helmet. I thought it looked pretty neat and a little different from your everyday schooling helmet.
Likes: I love everything about this helmet. It's so comfortable, I forget I'm wearing it. It looks rather attractive (for a helmet) and comes in Grey, Navy, and Hunter. I've even had a few people at shows tell me what a cool helmet it is and how it's much better than the velvet ones that look like 'bowling balls' on your head. No offense to the hunters, of course, who have to wear them. Ahh, it's great to be an eventer!
Dislikes: Absolutely nothing, I love the design, the fit, the color choices, the price, the harness strap, the smaller than normal visor, the box it comes in, the padding inside.. The list goes on. And by the way, it comes with a removable padded insert to help adjust the fit, if needed.
Quality: I think the way the helmet is shaped is definitely something neat about it. It basically has a flat back. But, low and behold, there is actually a function behind it. It was designed to provide a better lock of the helmet on the head, reducing roll off during a rough ride. Absolutely essential for an eventer, and pretty darn smart for a helmet, in general. I mean, if it doesn't stay on your head it's not going to do a whole lot of good eh?
The helmet is also very ventilated. I live in south Texas where it is hotter than .. (you know) ------ Well, it's hotter than it is in North Texas.. And this is a very cool helmet. I've had helmets where it is near unbearable to ride in one in the summer and this definitely does not fit into that category!
Summary: Excellent helmet, Excellent design, Excellent price. Try one!
