Purchase: I bought this shampoo at a local tack shop last year. I paid about $20 for it. My horse had just developed some rashy bumps on her neck and shoulders that I was hoping to clear up, especially since she had a show coming up in about a week.

Likes: It caused no ill effects on one of my two horses. I had used it on my pony previously and nothing bad happened.

Dislikes: It caused my Morgan to break out in huge hives all over her body and led to two months of skin and coat problems! It states on the bottle that this is a hypo-allergenic and a gentle shampoo, but my mare definetly had an allergic reaction to it. She has never shown signs of allergies to anything else. I washed her with it, but the following day the rash appeared to still be spreading, as she now had larger bumps that reached further back along her body, so I washed her with it again. On the third day I came out to the barn to discover that she had hives all over her body. She was itchy all over, except over the top of her haunches. There the reaction was so bad it hurt and she flinched if you tried to touch her there. I called the vet and told him the story. He told it sounded like she was reacting to the shampoo and to rinse her very well with plain water (I had rinsed her very well after washing the first two times, but when and rinsed some more.) The hives went down a few days later and the mare then had flaky dandruff all over her body. She became scabby over the top of her haunches. When the scabbiness lasted for a few weeks and actually seemed to be worsening I suspected something was going on and called the vet. He looked at her and said she had rainrot. She has not had rainrot since and never had had it before. Apparntely the scalding from the Eqyss shampoo damaged her skin and made her more susceptible. I was eventually able to cure the rainrot with a betadine shampoo but it was some time before her skin and coat recovered fully from this episode. I did use the shampoo on my pony with no ill effects, but it did not clear up the skin nasties she had. It is rather pricey for a bottle of shampoo.

Quality: Hmm. No comment.

Summary: I will never purchase this shampoo again, and in fact would not use it if somebody gave me a bottle. It is expensive, did nothing to cure my horses' skin problems, and caused further and more severe problems on one of the two. From now on I will stick to the nice cheap Suave I usually use to wash my horses, and mix it with some betadine if I must treat skin conditions.
