Purchase: I bought this saddle in 1994 from the Thornhill catalog. I paid $550.
Likes: It has a very deep seat and high cantle. I did dressage and trail riding and it served both purposes very comfortably. The regular tree fit my Tb/Qtr geld well.
Dislikes: 1) Shortly after purchase, the stitching on the bottom edge of the flap wore completely off. Although the company offers a warranty, I didn't do anything about it and I haven't had a single problem from it.
2) After a few years, padding in the seat of the saddle "migrated" towards the cantle, so there's a small lump of padding right behind your bum! It's imperceptible to the eye, but the rider can feel it.
3) The leather on the seat and knee rolls looks like synthetic leather, the company assured me it wasn't.
Quality: The "bridle" leather is a nice smooth leather with a lovely dark chocolate color. It's construction is very solid, made to last. Very high quality - despite the minor irritations above. It's a comfortable saddle and it has worn very well and after 12 years is still in excellent condition.
Summary: I've been very happy with this saddle. For the money, it's an excellent value, excellent quality.
Thornhill is now selling this saddle for $1100 - double what I paid in 1994.
