Category: Jumping Saddles
Purchase: Bought on eBay used 3X for $2250 including shipping from England. Came with Amerigo leathers, an Amerigo girth with elastic inserts, and HS system irons!
Likes: Fits hard to fit TBs perfectly! I exhausted all other options and this works like a charm! The leather feels like a high-quality purse! It will be easy to break-in. The panels are wool with a memory foam so that I get the fit of wool without having to have it reflocked as often. Makes 2-point work a breeze, but also helps me settle if I need to before or over the jump. The saddle stays put without a breastplate or a special girth while stadium jumping (XC to follow this spring)- a major feat! To give a visual- I have a 17.1h mare that took a 48" SMX Pro-Choice girth with a Delgrange Partition saddle, so she is narrow- esp along her spine, but not her shoulders!
Dislikes: I don't like how low the rear calf block is. It makes posting trot harder and sitting trot a pain. I cannot use longer stirrups to do flat work, which is OK I guess since I have a dressage saddle for that! I can feel where the billets are at the base of the flap- though it is my first monoflap and I am not sure if this is how it is supposed to be.
Quality: A+ all the way! I cannot comment on how the leather will hold-up because it is so soft, but it seems like it will. It takes oil beautifully and while soft it still holds its form, even under the pressure of jumping bigger jumps. Think it is better than the Devoucoux Chilberta.
Summary: The best saddle for a hard to fit horse. The seat is med deep, so be sure you like this kind of seat. Seat is generous in size. Very well crafted and superior leather- and about $800 cheaper than the Devoucoux Chilberta and fits those Thoroughbreds much better without custom flocking (for which Devoucoux charges $550 if you do not have the saddle custom made).
