Klimke/Miller Dressage Saddle
Model: Klimke/Miller Dressage Saddle
Category: Dressage Saddles
Purchase: I paid $795 for this saddle from www.usedsaddles.com. The saddle was in demo condition. I wanted one after using my trainer's and noticing how much better my horse moved in it. I also liked that it was priced right in my budget. For the money it is an excellent saddle. The guys at usedsaddle.com were awesome to deal with too.
Likes: I like the deep seat and the knee rolls are huge. I also like the price. The leather quality is not bad. You get what you pay for and I was expecting a lot worse leather quality since it is not an expensive saddle, but the leather is nice and soft. I like the wider channel and I think this has made all the difference in my horse's movement.
Dislikes: This is not made by Miller saddlery as my trainer's saddle is and the only difference is the her saddle is heavier and broken in, of course, which I will be even more happy when mine is broken in. Her saddle is about 10 years old at least and has held up well to heavy riding. I have been told that since Miller doesn't make the Klimke any more my saddle may not hold up as nicely. I'm fine with this as I would like to buy another dressage saddle eventually.
Quality: I am a leather fanatic and love European leather over South American leather. There is a huge difference. I was pleasantly surprised when the Klimke arrived and the leather was nice. I don't know where the leather came from, but it is quality leather. The stitching is good and it is well constructed. I have looked at every nook and cranny to find a fault with the construction and really can't.
Summary: I would eventually like to buy a Prestige or Passier saddle to find out for myself why they are they best, but being from Nebraska there weren't a lot of options. I didn't want to eat up my budget trying saddles and shipping them back. For the money and at this period in my life I feel really fortunate to have found this saddle. It is an excellent saddle for me and has improved my horses movement. He is a Appendix QH who would toss his head when I had my old saddle on him. The first time I put the Klimke on him his head tossing stopped and he started stretching down after warming him up right away. He really feels much freer in this saddle and moves nicely.
