Purchase: I bought this through Dover saddlery in Feb 06 for $189.00. I liked the other Mattes Pads I had seen at my barn, but I have a high withered Warmblood who is still growing and gaining weight. I needed something to accomodate his high withers but that I could adjust as he gets bigger/gains weight.
Likes: Great quality, very pretty saddle pad. Has the "show" look I want. Easy to add the shims and fits my saddle pretty well.
Seems to fit many types of saddles/horses.
Dislikes: It constantly shifts in the back!! very annoying! I have the Saddle fix strap also and it doesn't stop the back from shifting, no matter how tight it is. Also the foam shims flatten quicker on the near side(probably from mounting) and I had to add another shim to that side to balance the pad after only one month!
I think that they should redesign the back of the pad to prevent the side shifting. I am considering going to another brand pad, and considering the price I paid, I am not happy with it shifting while I ride.
Quality: The quality is first-rate. Tight stitching, thick sheepskin and will hold up to years of use. It has pockets for the shims that are velcro.
Summary: I like the pad alot, however, I would not recommend it for everyone. Especially if you have a high withered, slightly narrow WB like I have. It just shifts alot in the back. I usually have to re-adjust while riding...who has time for that?
