Purchase: I bought two of these suckers at $425.00/each 6 years ago from Nelson and DETEST them! When they do work, they are GREAT. Don't ask me how, but the horses in one pen with the waterer had removed the drinking bowl, (yes, it was latched down properly) and you can imagine what horses can do to exposed parts to one of these! We did get it back together and working until winter when the cheap PLASTIC plunger valve popped and then everything just froze up. I have had to replace the thermostat once, they constantly need checking/adjusting and really just defeat the purpose of having a working water unit! I have replace them with the good 'ol Rubbermaid tanks which I have had for 17 years...always hold water, and always work for me.
Likes: They ARE easier to clean than a huge water tank.
Dislikes: They way it is made, cheap parts, a pain to keep operating. Having to worry about them freezing up in the winter defeats the purpose of having one!
Quality: They look shiny and pretty standing outside, but inside the unit is made with cheap plastic parts and just not well made.
Summary: I guess I have gotten lemons, I have friends who love theirs. I would not buy another... EVER. The sales people were not helpful at all as far as recommending someone to work on these either. Any automatic waterer should be checked, but ours have needed to be checked and repaired too many times to give us any piece of mind!!!
