Model: Dressage Boots
Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Purchase: Purchased November 2004 for $825. I had to buy custom made tall boots because of my 18" calves, and I was told Vogel was the best way to go for a sure fit, only-buy-em-once boots. This was a sale price; I got all the extras (rubber ribbed soles, zipper, dressage lining) at no extra cost. I was professionally measured and given a 10-12 week delivery period.
Likes: The leather quality is unmatched. They are beautiful looking boots that gets lots of compliments at the shows. I bought the dressage lining which creates a rigidness that these boots will never slip down. The zipper is uniquely placed on the inside of the leg near the front. Much easier to reach than a rear zipper and not visible when mounted. Once their broken in its liking slipping on a old pair of slippers.
Dislikes: I was shocked at the lack of customer service. It took 16-18 weeks (can't remember exactly)and many nagging phone calls to get them shipped the first time. The customer has no recourse; you are required to pay 100% of the price before Vogel will even cut the leather. I've owned them over a year and they still aren't right. I just can't afford to send them back anymore and not have them for show season. The boots where sent back to NY a total of 3 times to be corrected and I gave up. Each trip back to NY took 4 weeks or more.
Quality: The first time I received the boots it looked like each boot had been made by a different person. One was beautiful, the other NOT. Stitching was uneven and not straight. The second time they returned the stitching was improved, but the snap at the top of the zipper popped off on the second ride and the fit problem was not 100%resolved. It took 2 trips back to Vogel for them to properly fix the snap. The outside top of the boot still flares out noticeably - I can slide my cell phone in it.
Summary: For this kind of money & the Vogel reputation, I expected more quality, courtesy and responsiveness. I wouldn't even mind the grief of dealing with the company if the boots fit perfectly, but they don't, so its insult to injury. Not worth the stress, time or money. Would not recommend if you don't need custom. If you do need custom, find another way or be prepared to have your patience tested. God help me; I've lost weight & now I need them taken in!
