Purchase: I have two! The first I purchased about 30 yrs ago for $350.00 it was used by a 6 yr old boy for about 2 months! I have to admit it was tough to break in, I ended up lending it to my trainer for a month (who rode 8-10 horses a day in it) to break it in for me! The second one my mother found for me at a flea market (totally covered in green mold!) A woman that bought a property found it in a barn, I bought it for $30.00 and it cleaned up perfectly! What a steal!
Likes: I love the close contact that they provide! I have no knee rolls or thigh rolls on either of them! They are very flat (no extra padding) and they fit my Thoroughbreds perfectly! I feel they make awesome equitation saddles! My first one took me to the medal finals! (years ago!!!!)
Dislikes: They are like leather covered 2X4's, so long term comfort is not one of their better qualities! My 76 yr old mother prefers her Stubben. I just love my two, why else would I buy another one 30 years later!
Quality: After 30 years of riding daily, I can honestly say that I have needed no repair on my older one. The one I got from the flea market (green and moldy) is still a little stiff but coming along!
Summary: The older Crosby Prix De Nations are a solid investment! If you are the type of rider that wants to feel your horse underneath you and are fortunate enough to find one in good shape, they are an awesome investment! They offer no help as far as holding you in the right position (that will be your responsibility!) but if you have a solid leg and a good seat, this saddle will show you off!
