Manufacturer: About The Horse
Model: Trail Saddle
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: This particular trail saddle is ornately tooled and pretty enough to show in. I acquired it directly from David Genedek, saddle designer and creator. It was made for a client that didn't work for his horse. His loss was my gain, I paid $2,500 for a $3,300 saddle.
Likes: Quality, quality, quality. Never had a new saddle that felt broken in from day one. The leather is supple and high quality. The seat is NOT heavily padded, which is my preference. I like my horse to feel my seat and vice versa. For very long trail rides, I have used a sheepskin cover but still prefer the naked seat. The quality of the tooling is superb and intricate. The tree bars which flare away from the horses shoulder allows for full freedom of movement. My horse gaits wonderfully in it and I know I will have it for years and years to come.
Dislikes: The weight. It's about 34 pounds without the rear cinch or girth. But I've learned to use a step to place it gently on my horses back.
Quality: My favorite two features are the saddle bars. They are not as narrow as most manufactured saddles, which means there is less chance of warpage or breaking. The bars also flare away from the shoulder of the horse for freedom of movement. I also like the fact that the top and bottom skirts are not stitched down, which allows give in the rear of the saddle due to hip movement. The quality of the saddle is top of the line. The leather, tree, construction, tooling, and add-ons.
Summary: If you can afford one, you will not regret the purchase. My saddle is a work of art, created by a man who thought AboutTheHorse when creating this saddle.
