Purchase: I ordered my boots online, paying $299 plus S&H.
Likes: Leather is good quality. I tried several other cheaper brands like ovation, tuff rider and Devon Aire and I hated the cheap, smooth, slippery leather used on them. So I decided to pay more for a better quality. Better leather breaks in well and is tons more comfortable in the long run. These were completely broken in, with help, in about twelve rides. i love the fact that ariat has four different calf sizes and three different heights. I didn't fit into the regular sizes but swam in most companies wide sizes. Ariat offers a full size which fits me perfectly. The tall height fit my LONG legs just great. I like the zip option as well.
Dislikes: Ariats are all made in CHINA now instead of Italy. Big bummer. If I would have had the extra $200-$300 bucks I would have bought Sergio Grasso Perugias or Beval Puissance or just gone custom. I don't have the money though so I settled for the ariats. Other than that, these boots are great.
Quality: Quality is pretty good although my old Ariats that were made in Italy that I have had for eight years are much better quality. The zipper is tough and the leather is soft. To help break them in faster I used stubben hamanol around the ankles several times. The ankles are like butter now and I don't get blisters at all!
Summary: If you are looking for a mid range priced field boot, these are the way to go. If you can spare the extra dough, buy Sergio Grasso periguias, Denhers (made in USA), or buy a good used pair of older ariats made in italy. If i could have found my size on Ebay I would have done just that! Regardless, these are great boots for the price and very comfortable, correct, and stylish for the show ring as well.
