Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought mine at a local tack shop and paid $500 (after trading in my old Reinsman, so the cost really was about $1500)
Likes: Absolutely unlike any of the other Tuckers! I tried out the other Tuckers - the Pearl. Cheyenne, Cimmaron and the High Plains and didn't like many of them for various reasons - especially NOT a fan of the High Plains as it is very uncomfortable for even a woman (can't imagine how it'd be for a man!). The Old West is nothing like any of their previous trail saddles. It is very comfortable for the horse and the rider. I purchased the WIDE for my horse (foundation bred paint) and it fits him nicely with a thinner felt pad. It isn't uncomfortable in any way - it has a nice high back for trail riding and isn't uncomfortable in the crotch either. Really is like an "old west" saddle with good ol' craftsmanship.
Dislikes: Two things: my horse is a tad wide as he is a QH, and it only fits with a THINNER pad. A thicker pad makes it not wide enough. So if you have a super wide horse, the Tuckers won't work for you. I bought a montreal breast strap which is also made by Tucker and the snaps were too small for the riggings on the saddle! It isn't too big of a deal because all I had to do is go buy bigger snaps, but I think it's silly that I had to do it in the first place, especially since both were Tucker-made tack!
Quality: Very good quality. Doesn't seem to scuff or scratch easily. Supple - this is the DARK leather btw.
Summary: A great trail saddle and I'd recommend it to anyone.
Usefulness Rating: 2.3 out of 5.
