Purchase: I bought this saddle online from Adams Horse and Pet Supplies. I searched for the best deal and Adams was offering either a free gullet changing set ($90 value) with the purchase of a Wintec saddle or a complete set of fittings ($100 value). I was hooked! I paid $396 with free shipping also offered by Adams (and I got the free fittings!).
Likes: I love this saddle. I wanted something new after owning my leather saddle for seven years. I was interested in Wintec because of its cleaning ease, durability, and looks. I love how it is lightweight, offers the easy change gullet system, looks just like a leather saddle, and is fairly affordable. I also wanted a new english saddle with knee blocks and pads to offer me more security in the saddle. I love how the knee blocks are fully adjustable with a velcro backing. Also, the seat feels like a cloud and even has padding up near the pommel so you don't experience any uncomfortable bumps or knocks, if you know what I mean. I absolutely love how the weight bearing panels are much wider and better distribute rider weight over the horse's back than most english saddles. It truly is an excellent saddle for trails, showing, jumping, or backyard riding.
Dislikes: Changing the gullet is a little difficult but not something I didn't expect. I went from the provided medium gullet to a wide gullet to fit my Haflinger. You have to buy gullets separate unless you order the kit and it was $19.95 on Adams. The screws weren't too difficult to unscrew but replacing the velcro panel in-line with the screw holes was, quite honestly, a little pain in the butt! I probably worked on changing the gullet for close to an hour (maybe 45 minutes) and worked up quite a sweat (I'm 20 and probably should be in better shape!) However, the directions are clear as to how you change the gullet and I managed to do it by myself.
Quality: The quality is impeccable for the money. The stitching looks fantastic without any frays or loose spots. When changing the gullet you get to see the inside parts of the saddle and they looked very well constructed and well stitched also. The material feels really nice and the "suede" knee pads are very smooth and soft. Dirt brushes right off all of the material and is very convenient not having to soap it down with cleaner. Great!
Summary: This is a great saddle for a novice, show rider, trail rider, or basically anyone that wants quality without spending a fortune. It is a very secure ride and has a very comfortable seat and overall feel. The wide tree fits my Hafllinger great and I am so happy I bought it! If you don't mind the synthetic smell and equally creaky sounds that leather saddles offer then you will be very impressed by Wintec and this 500 model.
