Dressage Saddles
Manufacturer: Passier
Model: Grand Gilbert
Category: Dressage Saddles
Purchase: I have been looking for a saddle for over for months now. Me and my horse are both very hard to fit. I am tall with very long legs and he is a thin, HIGH withered thoroughbred with large shoulders and a small/narrow everywhere else. I tried multiple saddles and could find nothing to work. I finally took a test ride in my friends Grand Gilbert and fell in love. Not only that, but I had NEVER seen a saddle fit my horse like these did. Just to test my new discovery I went to the tack shop and picked up another one and sure enough that one fit him also (used saddles.) Just today I made a purchase online and I am thrilled, I should receive it within the week! These saddles are top of the line and do exactly what they are supposed to do. I feel like I am effortlessly in the right position and my horse (who normally carries tension in his back due to years of poor fitting saddles) moves freely. The large chanel between the panels allows for more range and freedom of motion. I would reccomend this saddle to any serious dressage rider who wants a quality saddle to last a lifetime. I know people who own a Grand Gilbert that they have owned for 25-30 years and they still look amazing. These saddles are AWESOME!!! They are a little pricey but far worth it. I paid $1225 for mine. New they run around $2500 but you can find a near perfect used one for around $1500 or less if you look hard enough and are patient. It's totally worth it! 110% reccomended.
Likes: Absolutely everything! The "regular" seat is one of those few saddles that doesnt suck you in. You can still move yet it provides you with a complete base of support and puts you where you need to be. It is very easy to both post and sit the trot and in the canter the seat does a great job of helping you to maintain your position. I just can't say enough, these saddles are AMAZING! I have yet to meet somebody who doesn't like one. One girl at my barn got one and now everybody who has ridden in it is shopping for one!
Dislikes: The only thing I can think of that I don't like is that they are priced a little high (but not for the quality...just my budget!) and they are somewhat hard to find if you are in a rush to get a saddle.
Quality: These saddles are built to last. Known to last for decades. Wool flocked with the Passier PS tree. Great in every way. If you want a good dressage saddle take the time and look for one of these!
Summary: AWESOME!! If your in the market for a saddle this is the way to go. I've loved everyone I've ridden in and the cutback pommel and wide back chanel provides great clearance for any horse!
