Purchase: I bought the Crates Reiner after looking for over 2 years for a saddle that would not only fit my horse (wider tree) and fit my long inseam. I spoke with a dealer each year at the Il. Horse Fair and then bought it through her for $1100. This dealer was in Wisconsin and very willingly mailed our saddle knowing that we would love it.
Likes: I am very impressed with the quality and fit of the saddle. The fenders are longer therefore accomodating my long legs. I found in our search for saddles that having the fenders directly below your seat is a priority and then having enough length to accomodate a 6'1 rider was hard to find. The full tree makes fitting on our horses easier and more versatile. Our farm seems to have a wealth of "wide" and the Crates makes for a good fit as well as good looking.
Dislikes: So far, after 2 years, I can't say that I have found anything much that displeases me about the saddle. It fits my seat pretty well although it does have a bit of a "bicycle seat" which my wife didn't like as well. It did take a bit of getting used to but was worth it. The saddle is also on the heavy side(or so my wife tells me!)
Quality: This saddle has good solid heavy leather with just enough tooling to make it show worthy and still be great for trail or general use. The heaviness we have found distributes rider weight over a more even surface of the horses' back.
Summary: I would reccomend the Crates saddle. It is quality and will be a good saddle for many years to come. This is something that is worth the price but will probably give you more value than what you paid! This is a saddle that will only get better with age and use.
